Air Asia still owing (now more than RM65 million) Airport Tax! Also, Minister of Finance says MAHB is still negotiating with Air Asia to settle the outstanding debt!

Soalan:

Tuan Wee Choo Keong [ Wangsa Maju ] minta MENTERI KEWANGAN menyatakan mengapakah Malaysian Airport Holdings Bhd (MAHB) membenarkan Air Asia berhutang cukai lapangan terbang berjumlah RM65 juta (tunggakan setakat 28 Februari 2009) walaupun ia telah dikutip terdahulu daripada penumpang dan Air Asia memang mencatatkan untung besar tahunan sejak penubuhannya, dan mengapakah MAHB perlukan rundingan khas dengannya untuk mendapatkan kembali tunggakan tersebut.

Jawapan:

Tuan Yang di-Pertua

Notes:

  1. On one hand the Minister informed Parliament that MAHB never allowed Air Asia or any other airline to owe airport tax and on the other hand the Minister had admitted that as at 28 February 2009 Air Asia still owed RM65 million airport tax and MAHB is now negotiating with Air Asia to settle the issue.
  2. This is a real joke. MAHB never allowed Air Asia to owe airport tax and at the same time it is negotiating with Air Asia to settle the said airport tax!
  3. It must be noted that Air Asia has been announcing that it is making profits by the millions of Ringgit year after year and yet it still owes airport tax.
  4. I believe that by now the total airport tax owed by Air Asia is much higher than RM65 million.
  5. At all times, airport tax is paid in advance by the members of the public at the time of purchase of Air Asia plane tickets online.
